At your post, sergeant! is a detective novel for children aged 8 to 10. Extremely funny, the story is told from the point of view of an abandoned cat who dreams of becoming an investigator.
After causing an incident in a pizzeria, a stray cat is taken in by a police officer (an “appointee”, because the story takes place in Switzerland). At the same time, the agent is called for an emergency. An entire school fell asleep, from the principal to the students to the teachers. What happened ? Our cat is determined to solve the riddle. With the hope, perhaps, of being adopted by the police station…
Printed on glossy paper, with a soft cover, color illustrations on almost every double page and a very readable font, At your post, sergeant! is perfectly suited to young readers. The chapters are short and well-paced. Even if the illustrations are not particularly remarkable, we are seduced by the absolutely hilarious oral style, full of humorous winks and self-deprecation. It’s impossible not to fall for the little furry sergeant, whose future investigations we hope to read!
