The town of Nogent-sur-Seine has one of the oldest municipal libraries in Aube, since it was created in 1837. The service was first installed in the Hôtel de Valville, which then housed the town hall.

In 1904, the library was moved to the city’s art and history museum, opened two years earlier thanks to donations from sculptors Alfred Boucher and Paul Dubois. After the war, it returned to the Hôtel de Valville until the 1990s. In 1994, no longer able to meet the needs of users in terms of public reading and consultation of old collections, the library was moved to the Boeswillwald space, named after a family of artists. It was thus enhanced by a pretty park. The old collection of this municipal library comes from revolutionary confiscations, donations from local scholars or deposits from ministries. It was probably built throughout the 19th centurye century. It currently contains around 3,000 volumes. An inventory is in progress. Few works bear titles of ownership other than the library stamp and a complete study of this collection remains to be done.

“All on the road to the municipal library”, selection of old books, maps and atlases. Free. Espace Boeswillwald, 3 Rue François-Bachimont. Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
