A father was shot dead this Thursday morning around 4am during a home invasion in Ixelles, in the Brussels region. His wife and son were injured. The latter is said to have fallen into an ambush during a meeting arranged via the Grindr application, according to Sudinfo. The perpetrator(s) are on the run and are being actively sought.
The Brussels public prosecutor’s office is exploring the possibility of a dating app in the investigation into the shooting death of a 57-year-old French man on Rue Gachard in Ixelles on Thursday morning.
On Thursday morning, around 4:00 a.m., the Brussels-Capital-Ixelles police received a call about a possible home invasion in Rue Gachard, in Ixelles. On site, officers discovered three victims who had been shot. Emergency services and the Smur also arrived immediately on the scene. One of the victims, a 57-year-old French man, was found in critical condition and died on the spot from his injuries.
The other two victims, a 22-year-old man and a 57-year-old woman, also of French nationality and members of the same family, were taken to hospital. The lives of these victims are out of danger. The perpetrator or perpetrators of these violent acts are still actively sought.
The Brussels public prosecutor’s office has been informed and has requested an investigating judge. The investigation has been entrusted to the federal judicial police, which is currently continuing the investigations under the direction of a Brussels investigating judge, the public prosecutor’s office said. There is still no clarity on the exact circumstances and motives of the perpetrator(s). The public prosecutor’s office is currently investigating whether the perpetrator(s) may have had contact with one of the victims via a dating app.
“It is therefore not yet possible to confirm whether these facts are linked to homophobic violence, nor whether they are linked to previous incidents of homophobic violence which occurred in June,” he said.
