LRepresentatives of the MR, Engagés, PS, Groen, Open VLD and Vooruit are meeting on Thursday afternoon to analyse the budgetary situation of the Brussels Region, several sources confirm.

On Monday evening, the six parties had already met for the first time, even though there is no majority on the Dutch-speaking side. Groen, Open VLD and Vooruit only have 8 of the 17 seats in the Dutch-speaking group. Dutch-speaking formator Elke Van den Brandt (Groen) is turning to the CD&V to complete this majority. But its Brussels leader Benjamin Dalle has already stated that he does not want to help out. The alternatives, namely the N-VA or Team Fouad Ahidar, seem more complicated for one or the other of the partners.

The Brussels budget situation is bad. “The regional budget deficit will amount to 1.4 billion in 2024, out of a budget of almost 7 billion euros. If the policy remains unchanged, the deficit would amount to 2.4 billion, or one billion more,” said French-speaking trainer David Leisterh (MR) on Tuesday.
