Now free, the former Duke of Palma is based in Vitoria, in the Spanish Basque Country. “I am divorced and I no longer have any convictions,” he remarked to journalists following him in the street. Indicted for tax fraud, prevarication and influence peddling, he was sentenced to five years and ten months in prison in June 2018. Very quickly, a sentence adjustment allowed him to sleep outside of prison and even work in the industry. associative. At 56, the ex-handball player now lives as a couple with Ainhoa ​​Armentia, a young woman who worked with him in a law firm during the early days of his parole. In January 2022, the magazine Readings revealed their romance, with supporting photos, precipitating the separation of Iñaki from the Infanta Cristina.

The divorce of the former Dukes of Palma was signed at the very beginning of the year, both having wanted the last of their children, Irene Urdangarin, to be of age to definitively draw a line under their history. According to the signed agreement, Iñaki Urdangarin no longer benefits from any protection from Casa Real. However, the financial terms are not known. Like any former prisoner, he benefits from an allowance of 463.21 euros for 18 months. He and his partner are once again colleagues and have recently worked for the manufacturer Nuño y Pescador. “I do not want to be photographed or questioned,” Iñaki told journalists in the street, before continuing: “I have no explanation to give, I have no nothing more to do with it.” In this impromptu interview, his last words were to his children Juan, Pablo, Miguel and Irene: “I want to be a normal person, have a normal life, enjoy my children and my freedom.”
