Rail traffic between Domodossola and Brig is disrupted at the end of Sunday afternoon. Shortly before 5 p.m., a BLS convoy derailed between the Italian station and Preglia (It), reports a reader. “The train was traveling in a straight line and obviously hit something big enough to knock out the bogie at the front,” explains this passenger. There was a little smoke because a coin splashed against the wall and bounced off the train.”
“The cause of the derailment was a stone on the track,” explains the BLS, adding that this is something that happens very rarely. No injuries were reported.
At 5:50 p.m., travelers were stranded while waiting for another means of transport to be made available to them. “Replacement traffic is being set up with four buses between Varzo and Domodossola,” specifies the BLS.
On the SBB website, the next trains between Domodossola and Brig are canceled because the line is interrupted due to “an obstacle on the track.” “Intervention forces in Italy are on site,” adds the BLS. Without being able to say how long the disruption will last.
