A hostage taking has been underway since the end of the morning at the Arles central house, according to information from our colleagues at Provence having been confirmed at France 3 Provence-Alpes by a representative of the prison guards union SPS Paca-Corse.
According to this same source, an inmate, who was then having a medical appointment, held at gunpoint between 2 and 5 people (medical staff as well as prison staff).
The regional intervention and security teams (ÉRIS), highly qualified prison guards to intervene in the event of a hostage-taking, were dispatched to the site. The Raid is activated by the police prefect.
