On the night of January 2 to 3, 2025, the fire engulfed the roof of a building in the city center of St-Hilaire-du-Harcouët, forcing one of the occupants to climb onto the roof to escape the flames. Around sixty firefighters had to respond to the disaster.

Thursday January 2, late in the evening, a fire broke out in an apartment located in the attic of a building on rue Feburon, in the heart of the town of Saint-Hilaire-du-Harcouët, a town of less than 6,000 inhabitants.
Warned, the firefighters were on the scene at 11:15 p.m. and had to quickly deploy an aerial ladder to save a man taking refuge on the roof. The other seven people in the building have already left on their own.
More fear than harm. The man evacuated through the roof, aged 38, was transported to the Avranches hospital center, slightly injured. The seven other people were treated by firefighters and were unhurt.
But to prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring buildings, firefighters had to use four nozzles, two of which were placed on aerial ladders on each side of the building.
The fire was finally brought under control around 6:30 a.m. the next morning. It remains to clear the damage and identify the origin of the fire.
This operation mobilized 61 firefighters from the emergency centers of Saint-Hilaire, Granville, Juvigny, Avranches, Tessy, Ducey and Teilleul.
