The boss of the Insoumis Jean-Luc Mélenchon announced the withdrawal of “all candidates” from the New Popular Front in the cases of triangulars favorable to the RN.

Jean-Luc Mélenchon wanted to be very clear in the event of a three-way race: “We will withdraw our candidacy” in the event of qualification for the second round of a candidate from the New Popular Front (NFP) who came in third position during the early legislative elections.

“Nowhere will we allow the RN to win”, he hammered from the HQ of France Insoumise in the wake of the results of the first round, which saw the National Rally (RN) come in first. Jean-Luc Mélenchon, whose alliance came in second with, according to initial estimates, 29.1% of the votes, was also delighted to “a heavy and indisputable defeat» for the President of the Republic.

Mathilde Panot specifies

On the TF1 set, the outgoing president of the rebellious group in the National Assembly, Mathilde Panot, was keen to clarify that the withdrawal of left-wing candidates would be effective “if the RN is in the lead”.

With a sharp rise in participation, estimated at 67% by Ifop, the number of three-way races is likely to increase in many constituencies.
