Capture of Kanyabayonga by the M23: Lamuka demands explanations from the Head of State

The opposition platform Lamuka demanded, Saturday June 29, explanations from the Head of State and Government on the capture of the cities of Kanyabayonga and Kayina, located in the territory of Lubero, by the rebel group M23, supported by the Rwandan army.

Prince Epenge, spokesperson for Lamuka, expressed this request during a statement in Kinshasa. He insisted on the need to know the actions taken in the east of the DRC to stop the advance of the rebels in this region.

“The Lamuka coalition demands explanations, that Mr. Felix Tshisekedi tells us who is doing what in the East and what exactly is planned to ensure that such a situation does not happen again. We have the impression that the Prime Minister who went to represent him is in political communication and symbolism,” declared Prince Epenge.

He stressed that the populations of North Kivu above all need security and protection to be able to cultivate their fields and feed themselves. “They can go to the fields, but what they want is the guarantee that their throats will not be slaughtered and butchered by the ADF and the FDLR,” he added.

This request was made a few hours after the capture of Kanyabayonga and Kayina by the M23 rebels. These two cities in the Lubero territory were almost deserted by their inhabitants, who fled to safer areas.
