Mauritius: 869 cases of adverse effects linked to Covid vaccination recorded

Mauritius has just revealed that its health services had recorded 869 cases of adverse effects following vaccination and boosters against Covid 19, between 2020 and 2022. According to the analyses of the pharmacovigilance committee, two Guillain-Barré syndromes and one thrombosis caught the attention of the Ministry of Health.

Officially, 869 people vaccinated against Covid-19 report suffering from adverse effects after receiving one or more doses of AstraZeneca/Covishield. These alerts were transmitted to the pharmacovigilance committee, which identified 5 cases. Two people have Guillain-Barré syndrome and the other three have thrombosis with thrombocytopenia (TTS).

The English laboratory admitted that its vaccine had caused TTS. Asked about the subject, Kailesh Jagutpal, Minister of Health, indicated that the government does not plan to set up a “hotline” to contact people who have received the vaccine. A measure that will be put in place, if the World Health Organization recommends it, specifies L’Express de Maurice.

The file on alleged adverse effects related to vaccination and the numerous boosters against Covid is open. For the Mauritian collective No Covid Vax, the number of people suffering from adverse effects is much higher. Linda Lam, the leader of the movement, explains: “We have received many reports from people who, since vaccination, have experienced menstrual problems, increased fatigue and lack of strength, shortness of breath and heart problems, among others.”

A 30-year-old member of the collective confirms: “When the booster dose, previously optional, became mandatory, I had to get the Pfizer vaccine in order to access my workplace. Since then, I have had irregular periods, sometimes absent for a month, sometimes twice a month, with severe cramps.”
