Hurricane Beryl: Grenadines cut off from the world

Hurricane Beryl is moving away from the Caribbean arc leaving total devastation in the Grenadine Islands. The inhabitants have lost everything. They are cut off from communication and are waiting for help to arrive.

The Grenadines are cut off from the world. From Bequia in the north to Carriacou in the south, these little pieces of heavenly land are destroyed.

A social media post from a family on Union Island confirms that the island has been destroyed. Almost all the houses are damaged. Boats have been blown ashore. The residents are in survival mode.

Carriacou and Petite Martinique, which were hit by Hurricane Beryl, are waiting for help from Grenada, where the central government for the three islands is located.

Since Monday morning, July 1, 2024, internet outages have prevented Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell from addressing Grenadians.

The force of the cyclone in Carriacou was filmed by Internet users.

The island of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is made up of 32 islets, some of which are uninhabited. These islands are all devastated.

In Saint Vincent, the material damage is considerable. Houses and public buildings have lost their roofs. There is no electricity. Little internet and national channels have interrupted their broadcasts. Emergency numbers are unreachable.

The first images of the damage on Union Island were posted on the Facebook page of Ralph Gonsalves, Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

In Saint Lucia, a curfew is still in effect. Communes in the south of the country such as Soufrière, Dennery and Vieux Fort have suffered a lot of damage.

In Barbados the curfew is lifted. The greatest damage came from the sea.

Prime Minister Mia Mottley visited the fishing port in Bridgetown to meet with fishermen who suffered significant losses during Hurricane Beryl.

Starting tomorrow, Caricom, the Caribbean Community, is preparing to distribute aid to disaster-stricken countries.

Hurricane Beryl is moving away from the Caribbean arc and heading towards Jamaica. The southern coasts of Haiti and the Dominican Republic could also be affected by Beryl at the tropical storm stage.
