Funeral of Sadiba Koulibaly in Mandiana: the government and the military hierarchy absent from the ceremony

Funeral of Sadiba Koulibaly

As previously announced, the mortal remains of the former Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces, Sadiba Koulibaly, arrived this afternoon, Friday, June 28, 2024, in Magaly Faraba (a district in the rural commune of Dialakoro, in the prefecture of Mandiana). But for the moment, no member of the government or the military hierarchy is present at the place where the funeral ceremony is being held for the burial of this military officer who was nevertheless the number 2 of the CNRD and a close collaborator of the President of the Transition, General Mamadi Doumbouya, noted one of Guineematin.com’s special envoys in Magaly Faraba.

Before his death (on June 22, according to the Conakry military prosecutor’s office), Sadiba Koulibaly had already fallen from grace. This is evidenced by his dismissal from the head of the army (May 9, 2023) and especially his arrest and current judgment this month of June 2024 for “desertion abroad and illegal possession of weapons”. Facts for which he was sentenced, on June 14, to 5 years in prison by the Conakry military court.

Following his conviction, General Sadiba Koulibaly was removed from the army and demoted to the rank of colonel. His death was announced on June 25 by the military prosecutor’s office.

Sadiba Koulibaly died in detention and in conditions marked by suspicion, just days after his conviction. It took his family enough negotiations to finally manage to get his body back from the authorities. A body which was transported to Magaly Faraba (in the Mandiana prefecture) for its burial scheduled for this Friday, June 28, 2024.
