Berlin is preparing to host a new stage of the Conference on the Reconstruction of Ukraine, the first organized in a member country of the European Union. An edition which takes place in a tense atmosphere.

This Monday, the president of the conference and head of the Agency for the Reconstruction of Ukraine, Mustafa Nayyem, announced his resignation, citing “systemic barriers”preventing him from effectively carrying out his duties.

The Ukrainian government did not immediately respond to Nayyem’s statements.

In a post on social media, he attacked the Ukrainian government, deploring budget cuts and bureaucratic obstacles… A last-minute cancellation of his trip to the Berlin conference by the Ukrainian government was the trigger for his resignation.

The Ukraine Reconstruction Conference brings together heads of government and state to discuss the international support Kyiv needs for the country’s reconstruction and modernization.

The event will be followed by the Ukraine Peace Summit, which will take place on June 15-16 in Switzerland.
