Sweden, Slovenia, Romania… These countries where the extreme right is far from imposing itself

While far-right parties came out on top in the European elections in several countries this Sunday, June 9, they have not yet won everywhere, such as in Slovenia where no seat has been won by one of them .

They are a stain on the map. If the far right won in France, Italy, Austria, Poland and even the Netherlands following the European elections, and it won several seats in many other countries, a few rare territories observe to a lesser extent this rise of the parties most to the right of the political cursor.

This is the case for example in Slovenia, where the far right does not win any seats in the European Parliament, according to the institution’s website. The Slovenian Democratic Party came first in the poll with more than 30% of the votes. A victory which allows the right-wing party to acquire five seats in the European People’s Party (EPP) group in the European Parliament. Next come the Svoboda environmentalist parties! and Vesna.

In Romania, the alliance between the National Liberal Party and the Social Democratic Party made it possible to gather 53% of the votes, far ahead of the nationalist party which came in second place with 15% of the votes.

In some countries, it is even the left which attracted the most votes, as in Portugal where the Socialist Party obtained 32.10% of the votes, just ahead of the Democratic Alliance, member of the EPP, which accounted for 31.12%. votes. The far-right Chega party comes in third position, far behind, with 9.79% of the votes.

Decline of the far right in the Nordic countries

The far right has also suffered a setback in the Nordic countries, due to failure to impose its themes, according to experts.

In Sweden, it is the social democrats who win with 24.90% of the votes, ahead of the Moderate Rally Party, also in the EPP group, which obtains 17.50% of the votes, and the Environment Party who follows with 13.8% of the votes. The populist Sweden Democrats came in fourth place with 13.20% of the vote.

In Finland, polls before the vote placed the Finns Party (far right) in third position at 16.5%. The party, a member of the ruling government coalition, ultimately finished with only 7.6% of the vote.

In Denmark, the surprise came from the left since the Socialist People’s Party came in first and clearly increased by 4.2 points compared to 2019, with 17.4%. On the far right, the Danish People’s Party and the very recent Danish Democrats managed to seize one seat each, among the 15 granted to Denmark, with 6.4% and 7.4% respectively. voice. In 2014, the first obtained four seats.
