Stéphanie and Guillaume de Luxembourg fulfilled their civic duty

This Sunday, June 9, 2024, Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume and Hereditary Grand Duchess Stéphanie went to the polls. The heir couple thus expressed their choice among the candidates from the 13 lists proposed to represent Luxembourgers in the European Parliament.

The Grand Ducal couple votes in the European elections

Like hundreds of millions of Europeans this Sunday, the heir to the Luxembourg throne voted. Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume and Hereditary Grand Duchess Stéphanie went to the “Ratskeller” office of the Municipal Circle of Luxembourg to place their ballot in the ballot box.

According to Eurostat, there are 489,030 potential voters in Luxembourg, making it the second smallest after Malta. Cyprus, Malta and Luxembourg are the three countries that send the fewest deputies to the European Parliament, each receiving the minimum quota of 6 seats among the 720 seats.

European citizens registered on the electoral lists in Luxembourg were invited this Sunday to go to the polls. This year, foreign residents can either vote for Luxembourg candidates or for candidates from their country of origin via the consular lists. There are more than 200,000 residents living in Luxembourg who could potentially vote.
