The favorite has assumed his status. By crossing the finish line first in Les Sables d’Olonne, Tuesday January 14 at precisely 8:24 and 49 seconds, Charlie Dalin adds his name to the Vendée Globe winners list. Even more than the victory, the skipper of Macif-Santé Prévoyance established a new speed record for the event.

At the age of 40, completed his unassisted sailing trip around the world in 64 days, 19 hours, 22 minutes and 49 seconds. He thus beats by 9 days, 8 hours, 12 minutes and 57 seconds, the previous record of Armel Le Cléac’h which dated from 2017. A shattered record, but for which he will have to wait until 2 p.m. to celebrate it in the channel of the Vendée town, due to the tide. The Norman will have covered 27,667.91 nautical miles at an actual average speed of 17.79 knots.

His last takeover, on December 31, was decisive despite a long duel with Yoann Richomme (Paprec Arkéa). In total, Charlie Dalin has led about two-thirds of the points since the start of the race. He thus takes revenge, four years after having had to settle for second place even though he crossed the finish line first (the winner Yannick Bestaven had benefited from time compensation for having rescued Kevin Escoffier). This time, he is the first in Les Sables, and he will remain so. His first pursuer will be expected in the evening.
