You are probably aware that in recent years, profiles regularly publishing posts on their feeds have become rarer. The main reason? The arrival of headline stories, also say “permanent” or “bubbles”. Their arrival in 2017 (yes, we find it hard to believe it) disrupted the use of the application by its users, who prefer to fill in these bubbles than to create posts, a gesture that has even become old-fashioned for some, making us big Boomers.
So to remedy this change on the part of consumers and try to relaunch what is fundamentally the pillar of the app, Instagram is on the verge of removing stories from the front page, or rather moving them. Next to posts, photo dumps (always in fashion) and other reels, we could soon see a new section or tab appear, that of stories. There will no longer be any question of bubbles bringing too much specificity, we are bringing the stories into line, even if it is difficult to get through for the moment.
For his part, Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, spoke on the subject in a story in November 2024, explaining that for the moment, the featured stories have not been removed but that if you are part of those who no longer have access to it is that “you are part of the test”. He continues by explaining that he is in the process of looking for a way to improve the profile in order to simplify it, pointing out the difficulty of mixing the different geometric shapes (rounds of stories, squares of posts, etc.) while maintaining the creativity of users. in the center, therefore confirming the potential integration of featured stories directly into the profile grid. For the moment, this is only a test phase for Instagram which has not yet generalized the update.
