Kia, the Korean automobile giant, recently launched a massive recall. Since end 2024more than 550,000 vehicles in the world are affected. In France, exactly 27,202 cars must go to the garage for a check and perhaps repairs. Owners of hybrid models have reason to be concerned, because it is above all their safety that is at stake.
Which models are in the spotlight?
The main victims of the recall? THE Be Niroin classic or rechargeable hybrid version: 21,933 units to monitor. But plug-in hybrids Kia Ceed are not spared with their 5,269 copieswithout forgetting the Let’s XCeed manufactured between November 11, 2019 and August 14, 2023. For the Kia Niro, we are talking about models leaving the factory between October 26, 2015 and April 4, 2022.
No question of taking this lightly! Each owner must check if their car is one of the recalled models to avoid any unpleasant surprises.
A fault that could cause sparks
Why this reminder? It all starts from a problem spotted in the hydraulic clutch actuator. This little piece of mechanics can cause a short circuit and, in the worst cases, cause a fire. It is therefore vital to resolve this quickly to ensure the safety of drivers.
The danger comes mainly from the short circuit that this actuator could create, with serious consequences. Caution is therefore advised for all those whose vehicle is on the blacklist.
What solution does Kia offer?
No need to panic! Kia has come up with a simple solution: check each affected car and replace the faulty actuator and its fuse if necessary. The whole thing should take approximately 2h30at no cost to owners (even if your warranty is forgotten).
Customers will receive a registered letter to schedule this intervention. To manage this immense flood of reminders, these letters will go out in successive waves.
Still faithful to the hybrid
Since Kia launched its Niro SUV in 2016they have never let go of their ambition on the hybrid. The dual-clutch gearbox they use was supposed to avoid the acceleration issues often found in hybrid rivals like Toyota.
Even with this big recall, Kia remains true to its hybrid vision while taking strict measures to ensure customer satisfaction and safety.
