On the evening of January 5, the streets of the country were flooded with red flags of the Fatherland after Vietnam’s resounding victory over Thailand (3-2) in Rajamangala, thus winning the 2024 ASEAN Championship title.
In Ho Chi Minh City, Tran Minh Tu (30 years old, resident of Thu Duc) said that he felt very happy and that it had been a long time since he had felt such emotion.
“This moment makes me feel so good, so proud. Tonight, I will fully celebrate this victory of the Vietnam team against the Thailand team”he shared enthusiastically.

In Da Nang, the streets were crowded, with multitudes of vehicles heading towards the Dragon Bridge area. As the night progressed, the traffic became denser, with vehicles barely moving. However, people remained very disciplined at the intersections. Residents on both sides of the street also participated in the atmosphere, accompanying it with the sound of pots and pans and drums.
In Hanoi, tens of thousands of residents took to the streets with red star-studded flags to celebrate Vietnam’s victory in the 2024 ASEAN Championship.
On Tràng Tiên and Ly Thai Tô streets in Hanoi, thousands of people arrived, waving flags of the country. Many foreign tourists seemed fascinated by the scene, filming the excitement with their phones.
Around 10 p.m., police blocked some streets to limit the influx of people heading towards Hoàn Kiêm Lake.

In the city of Can Tho, as soon as the final whistle blew, a large number of residents from the surrounding streets headed towards April 30 and February 3 streets (Ninh Kieu district) to reach the city center. Along both sides of the streets, people of all ages were banging pots and pans, and blowing loud trumpets, accompanying the crowds celebrating in the streets.
The number of people in the streets could have reached several tens of thousands, but at crossroads and intersections, supporters scrupulously respected the traffic lights.
Around 11 p.m., April 30 Street leading to the city center from Nguyên Van Linh Street (about 4 km), was completely crowded, and vehicles continued to flow from other streets.

In My Tho, Tiền Giang province, thousands of people took to the streets after the match, causing traffic jams on Ly Thuong Kiêt, Nam Ky Khoi Nghia and Hùng Vuong streets. Red star-spangled flags covered the streets, accompanied by cheers from supporters.
In Kiên Giang, the streets of February 3, Nguyên Trung Truc, Trân Phu and especially Trân Quang Khai square (Rach Gia town) were crowded. “The Vietnam team played magnificently. They overcame all difficulties to bring home this significant victory for Vietnam. Vietnam is champion!” rejoiced Nguyên Thi Hông, a resident of the town of Rạch Giá.
A fan of the national team, residing in Dong Da district, Hanoi, shared: “Tonight, I am so happy that I couldn’t go to bed, I went out to the streets to celebrate. The Vietnam team brought many emotions to the spectators and won a resounding victory against the Vietnam team. Thailand, I would like to thank them very much.”
After midnight, the residents of Ho Chi Minh City were still celebrating. A seemingly endless crowd snaked down Hai Bà Trưng Street.

Prime Minister congratulates national team
Right after the Vietnam team’s victory, Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính sent a congratulatory letter to the team. In this letter, the Prime Minister expressed his warm congratulations to the entire corps of coaches and players. He expresses his pride and thanks the team for their extraordinary efforts, their courage, their determination, their solidarity and their incessant work.
The Prime Minister affirmed that this victory is not only a pride for Vietnamese sports, but also a source of inspiration for the entire nation, representing the aspiration to develop and conquer new heights.

The Prime Minister also expressed his deep gratitude to the group of coaches, the support team, and all those who accompanied the team. He also extended his special thanks to the millions of fans across the country who have always supported the team and been a strong support throughout the journey to winning the regional title.
The Prime Minister also sent his greetings and encouragement to the player Nguyên Xuân Son, wishing him a speedy recovery in order to return to the field and continue contributing to national football.
To encourage and motivate players and coaches, the city of Hanoi has decided to offer two billion VND to the Vietnam men’s football team.
