A recent history marked by an entrepreneurial president
La Deportiva Minera represents Llano de Beal, a small town of 1,400 inhabitants near Cartagena, in the Murcia region. It only has 350 members and its sporting “potential” is due to its president, who injected money into the club upon his arrival.
The history of Deportiva Minera changes with the arrival as president in March 2023 of José Blaya Gómez, boss of the “Cofradía de Pescados de San Pedro del Pinatar” and president since July 2022 of the “Grupo de Acción Local de Pesca y Acuicultura de la Región de Murcia” (Galpemur). This businessman injected what it took for the team, based in the Third Division RFEF (Spanish 5th division), to achieve promotion as champions of their group that same year, with only 4 defeats in championship.
A workforce reshuffled from A to Z last summer
To face the Second Division RFEF (Spanish 4th division), the president of Deportiva Minera only kept six of the players who had reached the promotion, recruiting no less than 16 new players alongside.
Today, in January, the team is performing much better than at the start of the season, which had to adapt to the new faces. La Deportiva Minera is ranked 8th in group 4 of the Second Division RFEF, a completely honorable ranking for a promoted team.
Deportiva Minera has already eliminated a “big one” in the Cup
It’s not the size of Real Madrid, nor Barça or Atlético, but for a 4th division team, it’s more than honorable. In the previous round, Deportiva Minera defeated Deportivo Alavés, a La Liga team.
So a victory for Little Thumb against a big one, everything we love in Cup matches. The latter qualified on penalties, after having held Alavés in check throughout the match 2-2.
