It’s trade deadline day in the QMJHL. In this year of the Memorial Cup tournament in the circuit, teams are arming themselves for war. The Drummondville Voltigeurs, in particular, are pulling out all the stops with two important acquisitions. The Moncton Wildcats also strike a big blow with a player who is back by surprise in junior.
The Voltigeurs first formalized this morning the arrival of attacker Nathan Baril. The 19-year-old has collected 33 points, including ten goals, in 34 games this season with the Val-d’Or Foreurs. He is on his way to his best career season and is very likely to be back next year. 2nd, 3rd and 4th round picks are given to the Green and Gold.
The reigning QMJHL champions also added Justin Larose from the Victoriaville Tigres. Also aged 19, the forward has scored 16 goals and amassed 37 points in 37 games since the start of the 2024-2025 campaign with the Felins. He had 80 points, including 38 goals, last season, in addition to being an important piece of the Tigers in the playoffs with 16 points in 14 games.
18-year-old forward Maxime Lambert and several draft picks are heading to Victoriaville: 2nd round 2025, 3rd round 2025 (CHA), 2nd round 2026, 3rd round 2026, 1st round 2027, 3rd round 2027 (CAP). It is not impossible that choices return to Drummondville in the draft against players who will remain with the Voltigeurs until the end of this year. This is often the case in the QMJHL.
As for the Moncton Wildcats, they acquired 20-year-old defenseman Dyllan Gill. The guard played in the American Hockey League with Syracuse, but was returned to the QMJHL to get more ice time. By selling his services, the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies acquired 16-year-old forward Niko El Khouri and draft picks (2, 3, 4 and 5).
