Justin Trudeau announced Monday that he is stepping down as leader of the Liberal Party of Canada. In a historic announcement outside his official residence at Rideau Cottage, Mr. Trudeau declared his intention to remain prime minister until a new leader is chosen.
For her part, Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante was less acerbic than the Conservative, stressing that Justin Trudeau had “always been an ally” of the Quebec metropolis. Ms. Plante also praised the Trudeau government’s “significant efforts in gun control.”
