Two months before the Oscars, the film Emilia Perez by French director Jacques Audiard dominated the Golden Globes on Sunday January 5, winning four awards, including best musical or comedy film.

Recounting the gender transition of a Mexican drug trafficker, Jacques Audiard’s film also won the prize for best non-English-speaking film, that of best supporting actress, which went to Zoe Saldaña, and that of best original song The Evilcomposed by the French duo Camille and Clément Ducol.

“Keep your head high and keep fighting”

Jacques Audiard dedicated this victory “ to all those who feel worried today”urging them “to keep your head held high, to continue to fight and hope for better days”.

“You may be able to put us in prison, you may beat us, but you will never be able to take away our soul, our resistance, our identity”launched Karla Sofía Gascón, the transgender Spanish actress who plays the heroine of the film.

Another big winner of the evening, The Brutalist by American director Brady Corbet, who is a favorite for the Oscars, won three prizes: that of Best Drama Film, Best Director and Best Actor in a Drama Film for Adrien Brody.

“No one was asking for a three-and-a-half hour film about a mid-century designer on 70 millimeter film, but it works”he underlined Brady Corbet when receiving his prize, pleading so that the « final cut » always comes down to the directors.

A first Golden Globe for Demi Moore

American actress Demi Moore also won her first Golden Globe, at age 62, for best actress in a comedy or musical film, for her role in the horror film The Substance by French director Coralie Fargeat, where she plays a former Hollywood glory addicted to a youth serum.

“I’m in shock”underlined the actress. “I’ve been doing this job for over 45 years, and this is the first time I’ve won anything as an actress,” thanking Coralie Fargeat for “this magical, daring, courageous, off the beaten track, completely crazy script”.

The award for best actress in a drama film went to Brazilian actress Fernanda Torres for I’m still here by Walter Salles and the award for best actor in a comedy or musical film to American actor Sebastian Stan for A Different Man d’Aaron Schimberg.

Four awards for “Shōgun”

On the series side, it’s the series Shōgun (Disney+), which was the most distinguished, with four awards, including those for best drama series, best actor, Hiroyuki Sanada, and best actress, Anna Sawai, in a drama series.

The award for best comedy series went to the series Hacks(HBO Max), whose lead actress Jean Smart also received the award for best actress in this category, and that of best mini-series in the British series Baby Reindeer (Netflix).

Actor Colin Farrel also received an award for his portrayal of Oswald Cobblepot in the miniseries The Penguin (HBO Max) and actress Jodie Foster a fifth Golden Globe for the miniseries True Detective : Night Country (HBO Max).
