An important and symbolic victory for Demi Moore. The 62-year-old American actress was awarded this Sunday, January 5, by the Golden Globe for best actress in a comedy for her role in The Substance by French director Coralie Fargeat.
Surprised by this award, the actress said she was “in shock” and moved when receiving her prize. “I’ve been doing this for a long time, over 45 years and this is the first time I’ve won anything as an actress. I’m just so humbled and so grateful,” she said on stage.
“30 years ago, a producer told me that I was a ‘popcorn’ actress. At the time, I told myself that even if I made films that were successful and brought in a lot of money, “I’ll never be recognized by my peers for money,” Demi Moore said.
“I believed in it and it destroyed me over time. So much so that I thought, a few years ago, that perhaps I had reached the end of what I knew how to do,” said she added.
“The universe told me it wasn’t over for me.”
In The Substancea horror fable that doesn’t skimp on the gore, Demi Moore embodies a former Hollywood glory addicted to a youth serum, which generates a rejuvenated double of herself, with destructive impulses. A very committed role, which presented itself to Demi Moore when she was “at the lowest point” of her career.
“I was really at my lowest when this daring, courageous and completely crazy scenario arrived on my desk, the universe told me that it was not over for me,” assured the actress.
And added: “Coralie, I am so grateful that you trusted me, Margaret (Qualley, Editor’s note) thank you for being my other half.” Thanks to this performance, Demi Moore notably beat transgender actress Karla Sofia Gascon (Emilia Perez) and the young Mikey Madison (Anora).
In addition to Demi Moore’s victory, the Golden Globes also crowned the film Emilia Perez by Jacques Audiard, rewarded with four trophies, as well as The Brutalist by Brady Corbet, who obtained three statuettes.
