In an interview conducted in 2024 for Dayna’s Diner With Dayna Steelerenowned drummer Carmine Appice expressed his admiration for Papa Roach, explaining how modern musicians are pushing the technical boundaries of Rock.

Ever more impressive musicians

Appice, known for his pioneering role in the world of rock drumming, highlighted the dramatic evolution in the skills of today's musicians: “Some of today's drummers are like machines. They are incredible. They took the foundations we laid and pushed them to the extreme. I see drummers on Instagram who are amazing, but no one knows who they are.”

Drawing parallels with icons like Billy Sheehan (Mr. Big) and Tim Bogert (Vanilla Fudge), he noted how each generation builds on previous ones while reaching new heights: “There are guys who listened to Billy Sheehan and are even better than him.”

Papa Roach: an unexpected revelation

Asked about recent artists he would like to see in concert, Carmine surprised by mentioning Papa Roach: “I went to see them with my neighbors, who are musicians, and who had an extra ticket. Everyone was talking about Shinedown, but for me, Papa Roach was awesome. I even downloaded a few of their songs from iTunes.”

This unexpected compliment shows how Papa Roach, an iconic Nu Metal band, continues to appeal to diverse generations of fans, including rock legends like Appice.
