How did the idea for this project come about?
Back in the day, I had a mini weather station in my possession. I used it from time to time, then it broke. A few years ago, I saw a garden rain gauge in a garden center and I fell in love! I started measuring the millimeters for fun, and I got into the game.
Are there other stations in the town?
Attention ! I would like to point out that my approach is entirely empirical. Regularly, my figures are also below those recorded at the Sizun dam. There is also a weather station at a place called Mougau. In the town, there are several of us who practice as amateurs (laughs)!
So what are your numbers?
According to Météo-France’s meteorology and climatology service, the cumulative rainfall in Paris in 2024 will be 900.9 mm, a record. Well, according to my figures, in Botlan [son hameau, NDLR]last year it rained 1,661 mm and… that’s not a record! Indeed, in 2020, I measured 1,665 mm and in 2023, 1,711 mm. In 2022, I recorded 1,321 mm, and in 2021, 1,266 mm. The annual average for the past five years is 1,525 mm per year.
However, it seems like it rained a lot last year…
I suppose the impression of continuous rain in 2024 is due to the number of days it fell: 128 is more than one in three. Additionally, between October 18, 2023 and October 17, 2024, more than 2 meters (2,001 mm) of rain fell. Over these five years, I also identified the rainiest months: in order, December 2020 (349 mm), November 2023 (305 mm) and November 2022 (297 mm). The driest month was July 2022, with 11 mm of rain.
