► Blinken “confident” in an upcoming ceasefire in Gaza
The head of American diplomacy Antony Blinken said on Monday January 6 that he was ” confident “ that a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip can be achieved, before or after January 20, when Donald Trump is due to succeed President Joe Biden.
“If we don’t cross the finish line in the next two weeks, I’m confident that this can be brought to fruition at some point (…) and when it does, it will be on the basis of the plan that the President Biden proposed »the Secretary of State told reporters in Seoul, where he is traveling.
► The Palestinian Authority announces the death of a teenager in a raid
The Palestinian Authority announced on Sunday the death of a 17-year-old teenager during an Israeli army raid near a refugee camp in Nablus, in the occupied West Bank.
Moataz Ahmed Abdel-Wahab Madani was killed and two other Palestinians were injured in the legs “by bullets from the (Israeli) occupying forces”the Palestinian Authority Ministry of Health said in a statement.
He said Israeli soldiers shot at a group of young men who were on a hill near the Askar refugee camp, east of the city of Nablus. The Israeli army had no immediate comment.

A Hamas official said the Palestinian Islamist movement was ready to release 34 Israeli hostages held captive in the Gaza Strip during the “first phase” of an agreement with Israel.
Hamas has “agreed to release 34 Israeli prisoners from a list provided by Israel in the first phase of a prisoner exchange deal”said this official. The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a statement that “contrary to what has been reported, Hamas has still not provided a list of hostages”.
