Ahead of the 82nd Golden Globes, where “The Brutalist” is nominated in seven categories, Joe Alwyn reveals the inspiration for his character in the film.

Alwyn told the Guardian that he was counting on President-elect Donald Trump and his children to help shape his role as Harry, the son of a wealthy industrialist played by Guy Pearce. Alwyn said: “Look at who the new president of the United States is and his family. Family businesses are often very insular, stunted and hollow. And we see it with Trump and his children: “I can do what I want. » A criminal convicted of sexual assault and grabbing them by the pussy and all that. Unfortunately, there is no answer.

Director Brady Corbet’s “The Brutalist” tells the story of Hungarian immigrant László Tóth (Adrien Brody) who immigrates to the United States and, after being discovered by a wealthy client (Pearce), is tasked with building an ambitious monument in his house.

After premiering at the Venice Film Festival, “The Brutalist” received critical acclaim and is expected to be a major contender at the Oscars. But Alwyn admits that when he signed on to the project, he wasn’t sure how much appeal it would have for audiences.

“To be honest, I thought maybe it would be a really good movie that not many people would end up seeing… Who knows, maybe it will again? I hope not,” Alwyn said. “But given the downsides, given that it ticks most of the boxes of what you’re not supposed to do as a film these days: the length, the content, all that – everything that comes on top of that This is a very good surprise.”
