The Crawley Town manager has issued a stern but optimistic message to his team as they enter a crucial two-week break. The truce follows the Reds’ disappointing exit from the FA Cup last November, where they were narrowly beaten 4-3 by Lincoln City. With the third round of the cup scheduled for next weekend, the Reds’ match against Wigan at Broadfield Stadium has been called off.
As they headed into the break, the team suffered another setback, conceding an early goal in the 11th minute of the match against Barnsley. Midfielder Jon Russell opened the scoring for the Tykes, and despite some efforts from Crawley, attacking duo Max Watters and Davis Keillor-Dunn added to the Reds’ anxiety with early second-half goals, sealing a tough match for Crawley.

Manager Scott Elliot, who was unable to participate from the sidelines, expressed his displeasure with the team’s recent performances. However, he sees this two-week hiatus as an ideal opportunity for his players to reset and regroup after a difficult period.
“I’m grateful for this break; the guys need this time off, but more importantly we need a reset of our standards and our game plan going forward. It’s essential to identify where we can improve as we move into the second half of the season,” Elliot said.
Despite the team’s struggles, with just one win in their last six games, Elliot remains optimistic about their position and prospects. He stressed that future successes will have to be aligned with his expectations and standards.
“Although we haven’t won in five games, this break provides a great opportunity to focus on our training. We need to refocus and strengthen our tactics. We know we can turn things around, as we did in the past, but it won’t come easily; we have to earn it the hard way,” he explained.

With this temporary break in play, the January transfer window is open, providing Crawley with the opportunity to improve their squad. The club is aiming to sign players who can boost its depth and quality, starting with the signing of Ben Radcliffe. The defender made a notable debut, leaving a positive impression on his manager.
“Bringing him in was a strategic choice. I have worked with him before at Gateshead, and I know his character, his physical attributes and his technical skills. Although he took on the role of centre-back in League One, I think that he has excelled. This is the caliber of player we need to attract to our club,” concluded Elliot.
