The retirement of Russian No. 7 seed Anna Kalinskaya allowed Swiss qualifier Belinda Bencic to advance to the second round of the Adelaide tournament at Memorial Drive Park in Adelaide on Tuesday. The score was 6-2, 1-0 when Kalinskaya, the 14th WTA player in the world, was unable to continue the match.

Bencic, 421st in the world at the WTA, will face Russian Liudmila Samsonova in the second round of the South Australian tournament.
