Seko Fofana: barely landed in Rennes, the Ivorian makes a radical decision; he will no longer participate in…

Seko Fofana, the Ivorian midfielder, has decided to return to Ligue 1 two seasons after leaving for the Saudi Pro League.

The 2023 African champion with the Elephants of Côte d’Ivoire left RC in 2023 to join the Al Nassr club in Saudi Arabia.

Upon his arrival in this championship, the Ivorian bought shares in his former club and is a member of the club’s Board of Directors.

In this 2025 winter transfer window, Seko Fofana made the decision to return to Ligue 1, this time signing with the Stade Rennais club.

“I’m very excited to get started. There are talented players in and I think the club is not in its place (12th in Ligue 1 after 15 days).

We will have the chance to be able to play one match after another and demonstrate that the start of the season was below the club’s potential. I hope that we will be able to reverse the trend very quickly”, said the player in comments relayed by L’Equipe.

This return of the player to the French championship and to a club other than RC Lens poses a conflict of interest insofar as the Ivorian was a member of the Board of Directors of the Lens club.

To avoid this conflict, Seko Fofana therefore made the decision to resign from his position as member of the Board of Directors of RC Lens, even if he still remains a shareholder.

From now on, the former Man City midfielder will no longer be able to have full access to sensitive information on the sports policy of RC Lens.

It remains to be seen whether the Ivorian will still be impactful through his performances as was the case before his departure for Al Nassr in 2023.
