The freezing rains which fell yesterday in the Côte-d’Or department caused numerous accidents, with a tragic human toll. At 9:40 p.m. Saturday evening, the department’s firefighters communicated an initial alarming report: 16 road accidents linked to bad weather required emergency services to intervene, including 11 on the motorway. These accidents left one dead, two seriously injured, 33 slightly injured and 24 other people involved.
An unprecedented mobilization of relief
In addition to interventions linked to road accidents, firefighters carried out 15 victim rescue operations and 7 other interventions directly linked to this meteorological episode. To deal with this exceptional situation, the emergency centers of Lorsgey, Is-sur-Tille, Mirebeau, Fontaine-Française and Arc-sur-Tille were reinforced by posted guards, mobilizing more than 30 volunteer firefighters. This reorganization made it possible to optimize response departure times and guarantee better rescue coordination.
Traffic: caution always required
Although traffic conditions have returned to normal on most of the departmental road network, areas of residual ice persist, particularly in the Messigny-et-Vantoux sector and on part of the A38. Occasional salting operations are underway, but the authorities are calling on users to be extra careful, particularly in these sectors.
Weather forecast: be careful of the wind
For today, Météo France forecasts light rain accompanied by gusts of wind that can locally reach 50 km/h. Motorists and residents are invited to remain vigilant in the face of weather conditions which could once again complicate travel.
