Of the 456 theoretical participants in the sequel to the South Korean Netflix series, only around twenty characters are highlighted. Among the extras, one candidate has a special existence.
For Hwang Dong-hyuk, creator of the series Squid Game the challenge launched by Netflix to produce a second season that it had not initially planned required the writing of a new story in continuity with the first. And also to rebuild a complete cast to have 456 characters in the gaming arena.
Among them, only the hero Seong Gi-hun (number 456), played by Lee Jung-jae his best friend Park Jung-bae (390), played by Lee Seo-hwan, and the game master behind the number 001, played by Lee Byung-hun, were present in the first season. New characters occupy a central place in the course of the game such as Jang Geum-ja (149) and Park Yong-sik (007), the mother and her son, Cho Hyun-ju (120), the transgender candidate, Thanos (230 ) and Nam-gyu (124), the rapper and his agent, the couple Lee Myung-gi (333) and Kim Jun-hee (222) or even Geong-seok (246), the father came to save his seriously ill little daughter.

Realization error in Squid Game ?
The vast majority of the cast of season 2 of Squid Game is confined to figuration, some having the right to a few brief replies with no continuation. In the mechanics of the tests where the “eliminated” candidates pay with their lives for their failure, the difficulty for the director of the series is not to get lost in the numbers.
In the third episode titled 001the complete trombinoscope of the 456 participants appears on the floor of the control room. As the eliminations progress, the faces disappear. During the first test, the 1, 2, 3… Soleil !a first wave notably saw the number 174 disappear from the grid. A candidate visible furtively in a wide shot during the first gathering in the dormitory.
Having gone from 456 to 365 after the first event, the participants were reduced to 255 after the “six-legged pentathlon”. When this group faced the third test called the “little merry-go-round” in episode 6 entitled O Xa new plan of the control room showed the faces of the surviving candidates among whom the number 174 mysteriously reappeared. Is he still alive? Production error or upcoming narrative arc? The answer will be in season 3 in 2025 on Netflix.
