Our prediction: “Conclave” by Edward Berger

The fate of this category will be observed with great attention. Barring a surprise, the reward will be played out between two films, the Vatican thriller “Conclave” by Edward Berger and the formal epic “The Brutalist” by Bradley Corbet. Awarded for his direction at the Venice Film Festival, Brady Corbet embodies the future of independent cinema. More accessible to the general public – it has also had great success in theaters, including in the United States – “Conclave” by Edward Berger seems to us a safer choice, even if its popularity is declining among specialists in Oscars. His six nominations nevertheless demonstrate real affection among voters.

Best Musical or Comedy Film

Our prediction: “Anora” by Sean Baker

Here again, a very undecided category, remake of the last Film Festival, with two films Made in (“Emilia Pérez” and “The Substance”) against the luminous “Anora” by Sean Baker. The American director won the first round and the Palme d’Or last May. Jacques Audiard’s musical received ten citations, proof of love from Golden Globes voters. But, our prediction is for “Anora” by Sean Baker. A choice guided by… competition. Because there are two musicals in the list: “Emilia Pérez” and “Wicked”, so the votes could be shared between them among lovers of the genre.
