A hypoxic brain injury has been established as the provisional cause of the death of a crew member after the emergency landing of a Swiss Airbus in Graz (Aut) on December 23. The deceased is a 23-year-old steward.

(Keystone-ATS) The brain was seriously damaged by a lack of oxygen, and the victim died in intensive care, a spokesperson for the Graz Prosecutor’s Office confirmed to Keystone-ATS on Sunday. Cerebral edema was also noted.
Other examinations and chemical analyzes must still be carried out to find out the exact reasons for these lesions. The final evaluation is expected to last several weeks. This involves examining what role the possibly faulty special protective mask used by the crew in the event of toxic fumes and vapors may have played. The plane had taken off from Bucharest and was due to reach Zurich.
The victim is a 23-year-old Swiss man who began his training at Swiss in October, German-speaking media said.
