Around 3 p.m., a violent fire broke out in a silo of the Coopadou company in Dannemarie-sur-Crête, which housed pellets for animals. 35 firefighters went to the site this Saturday, January 4 to put out the fire, which did not spread to the rest of the installations. The origin of the fire would be linked to the fermentation of the pellets.

No injuries were reported. However, the blaze that broke out in the town of Dannemarie-sur-Crête, a small town located south of Besançon, could have been dramatic. Around 3 p.m. this Saturday, January 4, a violent fire broke out in a silo of the Terre Comtoise Agricultural Cooperative (Coopadou), where between 15 and 30 tons of pellets, granules intended for animal feed, are contained, and is quickly spread throughout the hangar.
Alerted, the Doubs firefighters went to the scene to fight the flames. Several hoses were needed to put out the fire, which was finally brought under control after a few hours. The rest of the agricultural installations were saved and no damage was recorded outside the silo. According to firefighters, the intervention is however still underway in order to secure the building. “It’s a long operation, I think we’ll spend the night there“, notes Commander Olivier Deschamps.
Traffic on adjacent roads, particularly on the D673 which passes next to the hangar, remains fluid. Firefighters and law enforcement have not implemented lane restrictions.
The tens of tons of pellets caught fire in just a few hours, the gendarmes explain. At first glance, the origin of the fire would also be linked to the fermentation of these granules, composed of compressed grass and plants. Part of the stock contained in the shed would not have been properly dried before being brought in, which would have led to the pellets self-combusting.
The investigation opened to determine more precisely the causes of the fire will be able to define whether this first hypothesis is really at the origin of the incident.
