Passed by during the 1980/1981 season, Gille Van Binst died on the night of Thursday January 2 to Friday January 3, at the age of 73.

Belgian football lost a monument this Thursday evening. A true legend of Sporting Anderlecht and former Toulouse FC player, Gilbert “Gille” Van Binst died at the age of 73 from Parkinson’s disease.

In 262 matches played between 1966 and 1980 in the purple jersey of the Plat-Pays club, he won two league titles, four Belgian Cups, but also two Cup Winners’ Cups and two European Super Cups. The right back also has 15 caps with the Red Devils (1 goal), with whom he notably participated in Euro-1972, organized at home in Belgium.

Gille Van Binst wore another purple jersey in his career, that of TFC. During the 1980-81 season, the defender played 32 matches with Toulouse, scoring 2 goals. After this short episode in Toulouse and a brief stint at Club Bruges, he ended his career in 1983.
