Who to succeed Gerhard Pfister?

Less than an hour after the surprise announcement of the departure of Gerhard Pfister from the presidency of the Swiss Center, the names of potential successors are in all the conversations on this Monday of the start of the political school year. But before listing the candidates, the party will have to choose between a presidency from a canton where it is strong (Valais, Saint-Gall, Fribourg, Lucerne) or from a region where it must strengthen itself (Zurich and Bern, notably).

“For the balance of the party, it would be good to have a Latin presidency,” also notes Valais national councilor Benjamin Roduit. After the presidency of Christophe Darbellay, we had a German-speaking person for nine years. For his part, Charles Juillard, advisor to the States, believes that a “generational leap is necessary at the head of the party. We have to think about the future.” At 62, the Jura resident has held a position as vice-president of the Center for eight years. He should therefore not be a candidate. Throughout the conversations, certain surnames come back insistently, others arouse skepticism. Troop review:
