Doria Chouviat, widow of Cédric Chouviat, says “satisfied” et “at the same time a little disappointed”Saturday January 4 on franceinfo, after the referral to justice of three police officers for manslaughter, five years after the death of her husband, a deliveryman, who had repeated “I’m suffocating” during his arrest on January 3, 2020 in Paris.
While she welcomes the work of justice and the investigation carried out, in particular by the IGPN, “in accordance with the rules of the art”Doria Chouviat deplores the qualification of involuntary homicide. According to her, this does not correspond to the facts, recalling that her husband Cédric “died following willful, deliberate, unjustified, disproportionate and illegitimate violence”.
“The most serious thing in all of this is that they can continue to exercise their functions”continues Doria Chouviat. “The murderer of my husband, today, is head of post, that’s what’s scary, not just for me but for all French citizens“, she adds. “This man has done the irreparable, he should no longer be part of the police force.”estimates the widow of Cédric Chouviat for whom “the primary mission of a police officer is to protect, save, rescue, not to kill and find himself head of station”. “It’s the world upside down!”she gets annoyed.
Doria Chouviat expects from this trial “explanations” on the part of the main accused. “We are heading towards a trial which will give us the opportunity to be able to denounce everything that there is to denounce and to hold some of those responsible to account for their responsibilities”she explains. She hopes that this trial will make people accept “the sad reality” that“There are police officers who do anything.” “They need to be taken out of the loop, taken out of the police force.” says Doria Chouviat. “We see that justice is sometimes timid, now, what I hope is that it will not go so far as to become complicit in this murder,” she concludes.
