The end of the year did not prove Laurent Wauquiez right, on the contrary. On December 30, the Council of State ratified the decision of the administration court to force the former president of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region to release the guest list for his “summit dinners”, reports Liberation.
The right-wing politician has been criticized for these lavish dinners, particularly since the revelation of Mediapart in October 2023 that one of them cost 150,000 euros. In total, two dinners dating from 2022 cost the taxpayer nearly 180,000 euros, recalls Liberation. Enough to annoy in a France which constantly reminds us that we must tighten our belts.
The list of the few hundred lucky people who had benefited from this gargantuan dinner was leaked in the columns of Lyon Mag last July. One of these meals is even the subject of an investigation by the National Financial Prosecutor's Office. “This verdict puts an end to more than two years of unjustified refusal on the part of the former president of our region [et] marks a significant victory for transparency and ethics,” welcomed the Socialist, Ecologist and Democrat group of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region in a press release.
