France Télévisions and sports presenter Cédric Beaudou have reached an agreement so that the latter continues to comment on rugby on the air, avoiding any possible conflict of interest with his partner, the new Minister of Sports Marie Barsacq.
“By mutual agreement with Cédric Beaudou, the latter will remain on the air and continue to comment on rugby. On the other hand, he will not deal with political news and/or activities of the Ministry of Sports. He will not interview the minister nor representatives of the ministry,” the public group told AFP, confirming information from L’Equipe.
Several journalists, most of them companions of political leaders, have withdrawn in recent years due to the mandate of their spouse or during an electoral campaign.
Last spring, France Inter decided by mutual agreement to withdraw Léa Salamé during the European elections, due to her relationship with Raphaël Glucksmann, head of the left-wing list.
Last January, the head of the political department of Le Monde, Ivanne Trippenbach, announced that she was leaving this position and changing departments following reactions sparked by the fact that her partner was an advisor to the then Prime Minister, Gabriel Attal.
In 2019, Isabelle Saporta resigned from her position as columnist at RTL after the public revelation of her relationship with environmentalist Yannick Jadot and Franck Ballanger (Radio France) stopped covering sports news after the appointment of his partner, Roxana Maracineanu, as Minister of Sports.
Years before, journalists like Audrey Pulvar (then in a relationship with Arnaud Montebourg), Marie Drucker (with François Baroin), Béatrice Schönberg (married to Jean-Louis Borloo) or Anne Sinclair (then wife of Dominique Strauss-Kahn) had to put their career, at least in part, on hold, due to the political activities of their spouse.
