An individual caused a gas leak this Friday, January 3 in Auch, leading to the evacuation of around ten residents. He was taken into custody.
An individual caused a gas leak this Friday in Auch. The events took place in the afternoon, on a vacant lot located near Avenue de la Marne. Equipped with a hacksaw, the person attempted to saw through a gas pipe to steal copper. “The objective was theft,” the Auch public prosecutor, Clémence Meyer, later confirmed.
A building evacuated
Following this malicious act, the Auch police officers intervened alongside the firefighters to establish a security perimeter and evacuate an adjoining building, where around ten people were then housed. Traffic was also cut off, giving GrDF agents time to secure the scene. The evacuated people were subsequently able to “return to their homes”, as the prosecutor clarified.
Arrested later in the day, the individual was taken into custody at the Auch police station. He will be summoned to the hearing “in around ten days”, said the prosecutor.
