It's a New Year's Eve party that could have turned into drama. And which the three firefighters from the main emergency center in Bagnols-sur-Cèze (Gard) could not have expected. On the night of Tuesday December 31 to January 1, they went to Saint-André-d'Ollerargue to help a person.
But the intervention goes wrong and the firefighters face insults and death threats. The person they are helping even tells them that they are in possession of an opinel. He had also insulted, attacked and threatened the friends present during the evening as well as the police.
This Friday, January 3, just a few days after the events, the defendant was summoned to the Nîmes criminal court for an immediate appearance. The three firefighters had triggered the “OMV” procedure for “Outrage-Threats-Violence” and filed a complaint, as did their employer, the SDIS (Departmental Fire and Rescue Service).
Found guilty of the acts, the defendant, who had already been convicted for other acts, was given a three-year prison sentence with continued detention. He has ten days to appeal.
In a press release, the president and director of SDIS du Gard recall that “complaints are filed and the global “OMV” procedure is triggered systematically in the event of contempt, threats or violence.
