Gard. Charging electric car catches fire and causes major gas leak

Big scare for the inhabitants of a residential area of ​​Marguerittes (Gard) ! On the night of Tuesday January 7 to Wednesday January 8, a electric vehicle loading suddenly caught fire in front of one of the houses, causing a massive gas leak.

A fifteen local residents had to be evacuated in the middle of the night.

“We have received several calls from local residents reporting a small electric car on fire near a house in a subdivision in Daisiestowards 2h10 in the morning. A dozen firefighters went to the scene”, confirms Nicolas Ventosa, Commander of the Gard firefighters.

“When we arrived, the electric vehicle was totally destroyed, ravaged by flames. This fire had generated a large gas leak on the adjoining house, continues the firefighter.

15 residents evacuated in the middle of the night

Firefighters battled a violent fire in the roof of the home. More than 10m² of the roof were destroyed.

“Faced with the significant gas leak observed, the inhabitants of 5 neighboring housesor a fifteen local residentswere evacuated shortly before 3h in the morning,” explains the commander.

None were hospitalized. All the residents returned to their respective homes shortly before 5 a.m.at the end of the intervention of the firefighters.
