Nishikori aims for his 1st ATP semi since August 2021
Kei Nishikori made a strong impression for his first appearance of the season. In his first two matches, the Japanese beat Denis Shapovalov and the 19th player in the world Karen Khachanov in quick succession. A great start which ensures his return to the Top 100 on Monday, almost two and a half years after leaving it. First objective completed. Now, the former world number 4 and finalist of l’US Open 2014 aims for a return to the 50s. A success during his quarter-final against the Briton Cameron Norrie could already bring him back to at least 85th in the world. If he wins, he will play his first ATP half since Washington in August 2021 and will have a shot to play against Fabian Marozsan or Juncheng Shang in semis.
