The World Cup title holder, who is still dealing with back pain, will miss the fourth stage of the season, in Germany.
The Italian Lisa Vittozzi, winner of the 2023-24 Biathlon World Cup, has once again postponed her return to the world circuit by renouncing the stage in Oberhof (Germany) from January 9 to 12, announced Thursday the Italian Winter Sports Federation (FISI).
«Lisa Vittozzi is not part of the Italian selection (for Oberhof), she continues her fitness journey», indicated Fisi, without giving further details. No date has been set for his return to competition.
The Italian, hampered by back pain this summer, initially skipped the first stage of the World Cup in Kontiolahti (Finland). She then gave up in December on the Hochfilzen stage, in Austria, then that of Grand-Bornand, in France, planning her return to Oberhof. After Oberhof, the world circuit remains in Germany in Ruhpolding, from January 15 to 19, then will reach Italy for the Anterselva stage (January 23-26) where the biathlon events for the 2026 Olympics will take place.
Global Objective
Having missed half the season, Vittozzi, 29, has lost all hope of retaining the big crystal globe rewarding the best biathlete that she won last winter for the first time in her career. She can still hope to shine during the second major meeting of the winter, the 2025 Worlds which will take place in Lenzerheide, Switzerland, from February 12 to 23 and where she will put her title of individual world champion back on the line. .
At the 2024 Worlds, she won three other medals, all silver, in pursuit, mass start and single mixed relay.
