Having become chargeable since 2023, as suggested by a citizen consultation carried out at the start of the same year, the Lessay fair (Manche) will see its entry pricethen from two euros, move to three euros, from September 12 to 14, 2025. The municipal council took note of this decision during its last municipal council meeting of the year, Friday December 27, 2024.
This increase of one euro is “necessary for sustainability of the event », assures Stéphanie Maubé, mayor of Lessay, town which hosts this millennial fair.
From two to three euros
In fact, the costs relating to the organization of the order of 435,000 euros in 2024 – with a net profit of just over 22,000 euros – should further increase in 2025.
The cost of security continues to rise. Whether private or law enforcement, the mobilization of firefighters… These services are invoiced and we have no subsidy.
This decision comes from a desire on the part of the municipality not to “cross a red line”, in other words, to touch the coffers of the municipality to finance this event, “an institution”, underlines Stéphanie Maubé, “in decline”. “All fairs lose visitors from year to year. The average age is high and it is difficult to renew it. »
With 44,000 entries in 2024, the weather did not help the organizers fill the aisles of the Sainte-Croix fair, which had become more than muddy with nearly 60 millimeters falling in the space of a day.
With the entry bracelet going to three euros, Stéphanie Maubé hopes maintain a balanced budget of this meeting. “If a deficit appears, the fair has no future. »

The fair remains free for residents of the town.
