Josian Sylvio Edouard remains in detention. Police objected to his release on parole when he appeared at the Bail and Remand Court on Thursday, January 2.
Josian Sylvio Edouard is provisionally accused of the murder of Catalea, a one and a half year old girl. The tragedy occurred on January 1 at Résidence Richelieu, Petite-Rivière. The child lost her life after being violently thrown to the ground by Josian Sylvio Edouard.
The accused, who lived in the same house as the girl’s mother, had been accommodated by the owner of the premises at the same time as the latter, both being homeless.

The Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of Petite-Rivière quickly arrested Josian Sylvio Edouard.
According to the first elements of the investigation, the suspect, under the influence of synthetic drugs, violently threw the child to the ground. An eyewitness reported to police: “????????’???????? ???????????????? ????????́????????́ ????????, ????????’???????? ???????????????? ???????? ????????????????”.
The autopsy, carried out Wednesday afternoon, revealed that little Catalea died from a skull fracture.
A drug addict, Josian Sylvio Edouard told investigators that he had consumed synthetic drugs shortly before the tragedy. However, he indicated that he did not remember precisely the facts surrounding the incident. He said: “???????????????? 7 ???? ???????? ???????????????????? ????????’???????? ????????????. ???????????????????? ???????????????????????? ????????’???????? ????????????????, ???????????????? ???????????????? ???????????????????? ????????. ???????? ???????? ???????????????? ???????????????????????????????????????? ????????????????????”.
According to information collected, the tragedy occurred around 11 a.m. on Wednesday. The suspect, a carpenter by profession, allegedly took the child in his arms to play with her while he was under the influence of drugs.
Catalea’s mother, Anouchka, had recently been living in the suspect’s house, both having found refuge thanks to the generosity of the owner of the place.
