A spectacular fire has forced the evacuation of thousands of people in the hills overlooking Los Angeles since Tuesday January 7, 2025. Faced with “mortal danger”, the entertainment industry is taking a break with the cancellation of several major premieres.
Star neighborhood engulfed in flames in Los Angeles
The fire broke out Tuesday morning in the upscale Pacific Palisades neighborhood, where many celebrities live in villas estimated at several million dollars. Faced with the rapid progression of the flames which have already ravaged nearly 1,200 hectares, around 30,000 people were ordered to evacuate. Actor James Woods, forced to leave his home, shared a video of the blaze on social media, specifying: “We are safe”. For his part, Eugene Levy, honorary mayor of Pacific Palisades, described the situation: “The smoke looked quite black and intense over Temescal Canyon. I couldn’t see any flames, but the smoke was very dark.”
A critical weather situation in California
California Governor Gavin Newsom reported “many structures already destroyed” during a press briefing. The situation is all the more worrying as violent winds, reaching up to 160 km/h, are expected. “We are absolutely not out of the woods”insisted the governor, warning that the gusts would continue.
Hollywood suspends its celebrations
Faced with this threat, the entertainment industry had to review its plans. The studios have canceled several major events in succession. Amazon MGM and Universal have postponed premieres of “Unstoppable“and “Wolf Man”.
Paramount also canceled that of “Better Man“, the Robbie Williams biopic, explaining in a press release: “Our thoughts are with those who have been impacted by these destructive fires. We encourage everyone to stay safe and follow the directions of law enforcement.”.
Even Netflix had to abandon an event around the music of the film “Emilia Perez” by Jacques Audiard, which was to bring together the actress Karla Sofía Gascón and the composers Camille and Clément Ducol.
